Bio
Recruited from North Adelaide with pick 21 in the 2016 National Draft, Will Hayward established himself as a vital component of the Sydney Swans' forward structure for nearly a decade. An athletic medium forward renowned for his elite defensive pressure and deceptive overhead marking ability, Hayward wasted little time adapting to the top level, earning a Rising Star nomination in his debut season. He became a fixture in the Swans' best 22 during the club's regeneration under John Longmire, playing a key role in their return to finals contention and featuring in the 2022 and 2024 Grand Finals. While often tasked with selfless running and tackling roles to lock the ball inside 50, he remained a dangerous scoreboard threat, consistently contributing more than a goal a game throughout his tenure in the Harbour City.
Following the 2025 season, Hayward departed Sydney to join Carlton, bringing 184 games of experience to Princes Park. The move bolstered the Blues' attacking mix, with Hayward recruited to apply his trademark forward pressure and serve as a connecting target for the club's key forwards. Leaving the Swans as a highly respected clubman with 229 goals to his name, he arrived at Carlton as a seasoned campaigner expected to provide immediate leadership and intensity as the club looked to solidify its premiership credentials.
