Bio
Recruited to Sydney in the 2013 Rookie Draft, Xavier Richards is best remembered as the younger brother of premiership defender Ted Richards and for his sudden, unusual departure from the AFL system. After spending three years dominating the NEAFL mostly as a key defender, he reinvented himself as a mobile forward in late 2016, breaking into the senior side to play ten consecutive games including the Grand Final loss to the Western Bulldogs. His athleticism and marking power provided a new dynamic for the Swans' attack, but his tenure ended in bizarre circumstances immediately following that season's decider. After requesting a trade to explore opportunities elsewhere, no deal eventuated during the exchange period; he was subsequently delisted and overlooked by all other clubs, leaving him with a unique legacy as a Grand Final player who found himself out of the league just weeks later.
