Recruited from Koroit in the Hampden Football League, Adrian Gleeson joined Carlton in 1986 and immediately became a fixture in the senior side. Affectionately nicknamed "Bear," he was a classic rover who combined elite endurance with sharp goal sense, often drifting forward to finish his work with accuracy. Gleeson was a central figure in the Blues' celebrated "Mosquito Fleet," a collection of small, pacy midfielders who were instrumental in the club's tactical setup during the late 1980s.

His career high point came in just his second season, where he played a pivotal role in the 1987 premiership victory against Hawthorn. While he evolved into a senior leader at Princes Park, the latter stages of his career saw him battle injuries while helping transition the squad toward its next successful era. He retired in 1996 as a one-club player and life member, maintaining a strong connection to Carlton by later serving as a director on the club's board for many years.
