Bio
Recruited from the North Ballarat Rebels with pick 33 in the 2016 National Draft, Willem Drew endured a frustrated start to his time at Alberton, with persistent foot injuries delaying his debut until 2019 and wiping out his entire 2020 campaign. After finally overcoming these setbacks to cement his spot in 2021, he evolved into the defensive conscience of the Port Adelaide engine room. While the club's dynamic ball-winners often garner the headlines, Drew performs the selfless heavy lifting as a defensive midfielder and tagger, renowned for his elite tackling pressure and disciplined run-with roles against the competition's premier midfielders.
Despite often flying under the radar externally, Drew is rated highly within the four walls at Port Adelaide for his work ethic and structural importance. His ability to win contested ball and nullify opponents provides the necessary balance to the Power's attacking midfield brigade. This reliability saw him elevated to the club's leadership group, marking his transition from a fringe player battling injury to an indispensable veteran and mentor within the senior side.
