Bio
Born into a family with rich football pedigree, Alby Naismith was the son of Fitzroy premiership player Wally Naismith and the brother of Collingwood's Herb. Recruited from Alphington, he made an immediate impact at Glenferrie Oval by topping Hawthorn's goalkicking list in his debut 1938 season with 30 majors. Naismith was a versatile attacker capable of serving as a key target at centre half-forward or operating dangerously in the pockets, a flexibility that helped him claim the club's leading goalkicker honour for a second time in 1940. His VFL career wrapped up during the Second World War in 1943, after which he continued playing as a prolific full-forward for Oakleigh in the VFA.
