Bio
Recruited from the Alphington Amateurs, Herb Naismith arrived at Victoria Park with an impressive football pedigree, being the son of former Fitzroy and Melbourne stalwart Wally Naismith and the nephew of Magpie Alf Dummett. Standing 185cm, he was a versatile key position talent who primarily anchored the backline as a centre half-back, where his strong marking and ability to read the play made him a reliable pillar in defence. While he was capable of pinch-hitting as a follower, his career momentum was significantly interrupted by his service in the Australian Army during World War II, which restricted his ultimate output over nine seasons. Despite the wartime disruption, Naismith is remembered as a loyal servant of the club who upheld a proud family tradition during a turbulent era for the league.
