Andrew Kellaway arrived at Richmond via a determined pathway, upgrading from the supplementary list to be selected with pick 71 in the 1997 National Draft. Joining his older brother Duncan at Punt Road, he quickly forged a reputation as a courageous key defender who refused to yield an inch to opponents. His breakout campaign came in 2000, when his disciplined, close-checking efforts were rewarded with the Jack Dyer Medal and All-Australian selection, cementing his status as one of the league's most reliable backmen during a difficult era for the club.

Renowned for his bravery in aerial contests and his ability to shut down dangerous key forwards, Kellaway was a mainstay of the Tigers' defence for nearly a decade. He also achieved rare success on the international stage, excelling as a goalkeeper in the International Rules series against Ireland and winning the Jim Stynes Medal in 2002. His career at Richmond concluded abruptly when he was delisted at the end of the 2006 season, departing as a highly respected figure who had squeezed every ounce of potential out of his opportunities.
