Bio
Hailing from the New South Wales town of Ungarie, Anthony Daniher established himself as a cornerstone of the league's most famous footballing brotherhood. He began his career with South Melbourne, transitioning with the club during its relocation to the Harbour City, where he developed into a reliable key defender. However, the pull of family proved strong, and following the 1986 season, he crossed to Essendon to reunite with brothers Terry and Neale. This move eventually facilitated a piece of football history in 1990, when Anthony joined his three brothers to play for New South Wales against Victoria in State of Origin, the only time four brothers have played together at that level.
On the field, Daniher was known as a durable and imposing full-back, capable of taking strong contested marks and clearing the defensive 50 with thumping kicks. His consistent form was rewarded with All-Australian selection in 1991, though ultimate team success proved elusive; he played in the Bombers' 1990 Grand Final loss to Collingwood, but injury curtailed his involvement during the "Baby Bombers" premiership year of 1993. Retiring after the 1994 season, his legacy at Essendon extended well beyond his playing days, most notably providing the club with a high-profile father-son recruit in key forward Joe Daniher.
