Bio
Recruited from Footscray in the VFA, Bill Robinson was the most accomplished of three brothers to play for Essendon during the federation era. A skilled ruckman who made an immediate impression, he earned state selection and played a pivotal role in the club's 1901 premiership victory during his debut season. After featuring in the 1902 Grand Final loss, Robinson briefly left to play in the Metropolitan Association before returning to Essendon, where he served as club captain in 1905. His League career ended abruptly in 1906 when he walked out on the team following a principled dispute involving teammate Fred Hiskins, eventually completing his playing days with Brighton and in the West Australian Goldfields.
