Bio
Recruited from Glenelg in the SANFL, Brad Close arrived at Geelong as a mature-age rookie selection ahead of the 2020 season. He quickly adapted to the rigours of AFL football, evolving from a speculative rookie pick into a permanent fixture in the best 22. Instantly recognisable by his signature long sleeves, Close carved out a niche as a high-pressure small forward, utilising elite endurance to harass opposition defenders and link play between the midfield and deep forward line.
While he proved to be a reliable avenue to goal, Close's reputation was built on his selflessness and defensive application. He became a crucial component of the Cats' high-functioning attack during their dominant 2022 campaign, culminating in a premiership medallion. With over a century of games to his name, he established himself as a disciplined, creative forward whose contribution was measured as much by goal assists and tackles as it was by his own scoring output.
