Bio
The son of former Essendon utility Dean Hartigan, Brent Hartigan arrived at Punt Road as a disciplined defensive prospect taken with pick 70 in the 2003 National Draft. A standout for the Calder Cannons where he won a best and fairest, he made an immediate impact at AFL level, debuting in Round 1, 2004 and playing 19 games in a breakout debut season that earned him a Rising Star nomination. Operating primarily as a tenacious back pocket, Hartigan was known for his accountability, close checking, and ability to nullify dangerous small forwards. Despite this promising start, his career momentum was halted by recurring soft-tissue injuries and form struggles in subsequent seasons, restricting him to just 16 appearances over his final three years before he was delisted at the end of 2007.
