Bio
Arriving at Alberton via the father-son rule, Brett Ebert faced the daunting task of forging a career in the shadow of his father, four-time Magarey Medallist Russell Ebert. He signalled his potential early by winning a Magarey Medal of his own in the SANFL as a teenager in 2003, a rare feat that preceded his consolidation at AFL level. Physically compact but deceptively strong overhead, Ebert played primarily as a medium forward who could mark well above his height and convert consistently from set shots.
His breakout season came in 2007, where he led Port Adelaide's goalkicking with 56 goals and played a vital role in the club's charge to the Grand Final. While he spent periods rotating through the midfield, he was most dangerous inside the forward 50, using his explosive lead and contested marking ability to trouble defenders. Injuries began to take a toll late in his career, and after struggling with a persistent adductor problem, he retired in 2013 as a distinguished one-club player who successfully upheld the family legacy.
