Bio
Hailing from Berri in South Australia's Riverland, Russell Ebert was already an established icon of the SANFL when he joined North Melbourne for the 1979 season. Under a unique arrangement that involved commuting weekly between Adelaide and Melbourne, Ebert played all 25 games for the Kangaroos, showcasing the supreme balance, overhead strength, and handballing skill that defined his game. Despite the arduous travel schedule, he finished as the club's leading ball-winner for the year before returning to Port Adelaide. While his VFL career was limited to that single campaign, it validated his standing as one of the sport's greats, a reputation secured by his record four Magarey Medals and eventual elevation to Legend status in the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
