Family

The younger brother of Brisbane triple-premiership captain Michael Voss, Brett Voss began his career in Queensland but found it difficult to step out of his sibling's shadow at the Lions. Despite showing promise across five seasons with the Bears and Lions, he struggled to cement a regular spot in a squad that was rapidly developing into a premiership dynasty. Seeking greater opportunity and a distinct identity, he moved to St Kilda at the end of the 2000 season, a transfer that allowed him to forge a successful career on his own terms.

At Moorabbin, Voss reinvented himself as a courageous and versatile utility, becoming a key figure in the Saints' resurgence under Grant Thomas. Although lacking the physical stature of a key position player, he was renowned for his ability to play above his height, frequently taking courageous marks backing into packs and competing effectively against taller opponents in defence. He played 135 games for the Saints, earning a reputation as a fierce competitor and a vital structural piece of the St Kilda sides that challenged for premierships in the mid-2000s before retiring in 2007.
