Selected by Melbourne with pick 4 in the 2007 National Draft, Cale Morton entered the league with high expectations as the third of the Morton brothers to reach the AFL level. A tall, rangy wingman with elite endurance, he made an immediate impact, earning a Rising Star nomination in his debut season and quickly establishing himself as a high-production link-up player. Despite this promising start, Morton struggled to add the necessary physical bulk to his frame to compete effectively in contested situations, leading to inconsistent form and criticism regarding his defensive pressure. After falling out of favour at the Demons, he was traded to West Coast ahead of the 2013 season in exchange for a late pick, seeking to revitalise his career in his home state. He managed just three senior appearances for the Eagles before being delisted, largely remembered as a talented prospect who could not quite overcome the physical demands of the top level during a difficult era for the Melbourne Football Club.
