Bio
Selected by West Coast under the father-son rule as the son of Noel Morton, Mitch Morton struggled to break into the Eagles' star-studded lineup during their mid-2000s dominance. Seeking greater opportunities, he was traded to Richmond ahead of the 2008 season, where he showcased his potential as a mercurial half-forward with a booming kick and natural goal sense. While he topped the Tigers' goalkicking in 2009, his time at Punt Road was often defined by inconsistency and questions regarding his defensive work rate, eventually leading to a trade to Sydney for a speculative late draft pick. Although he spent much of his time in the Harbour City playing reserves football, Morton's career culminated in a defining high point; he broke into the senior side late in the 2012 season and played a pivotal role in the Swans' Grand Final victory over Hawthorn, booting two goals on the biggest stage before retiring the following year.
