Bio
Recruited from Modewarre, Ced Hovey was the eldest of four brothers to wear the hoops, establishing a family dynasty that would later include 1951-52 premiership player Ron Hovey. A mature-age debutant at 26, Hovey played his football as a centreman, making ten senior appearances during the 1945 season as the competition transitioned out of the war years. He did not feature at senior level again, instead captaining the reserves in 1946 before transferring to Geelong West in the Ballarat Football League, where he served as captain-coach and won a best and fairest. Hovey remained a beloved figure at Kardinia Park for decades, holding the distinction of being the club's oldest surviving player until his passing at age 95.
