Bio
Recruited from the country leagues around Benalla and Shepparton, Clarrie Nolan joined North Melbourne during the club's inaugural VFL campaign in 1925. A versatile key position player standing 188cm, he initially held down centre half-back to stem the flow of opposition attacks before shifting to centre half-forward to utilise his high marking and booming boot. He became renowned for his immense kicking power, famously winning a Sporting Globe long-distance contest at the MCG with a place-kick measuring over 65 metres. Nolan saved his best form for his final season in 1928, where he overcame a goalless first half of the year to finish as the Shinboners' leading goalkicker with 24 majors. He left the VFL shortly after to become a premiership-winning captain-coach for West Albury in the Ovens and Murray League.
