Bio
Hailing from Wangaratta, Leo Nolan arrived at Melbourne with a reputation as a versatile all-round athlete, though his path to the VFL was complicated by permit technicalities that scuppered an earlier move to North Melbourne where his brothers, Clarrie and Jack, played. Finally joining the Demons in 1932 after a stint with Maryborough, the centre half-forward showed glimpses of his potential, described in the press as "big, fast and strong" while booting four goals in six appearances. However, injuries curtailed his impact at the top level, and he did not play a second season in the city. Nolan returned to the Ovens and Murray League the following year, where he immediately underscored his talent by kicking 85 goals in a premiership campaign for Wangaratta before eventually settling in Leeton as a prominent local sportsman.
