Hailing from Wangaratta and recruited from Leongatha where he worked as a high school teacher, Jack Nolan was a tall timber forward who made a brief cameo for North Melbourne during the club's formative VFL years. Standing at 188cm—a significant height for the 1920s—he joined his brothers Clarrie and Leo in the League ranks, using his frame to serve as a marking target in attack and booting 10 goals in just nine appearances during the 1926 season. Despite his decent strike rate in front of goal, his time at Arden Street was fleeting, as he opted to return to the country leagues of North East Victoria rather than pursue a long-term city career. Nolan eventually became a prominent figure in regional sport and administration, best known for co-founding the successful Nolan Brothers Sports Stores chain in Albury and Wangaratta.
