Bio
Recruited from local GDFL club Lara, Damien Christensen was a productive midfielder and small forward who made a startling entry to league football in 1983, gathering 22 disposals and booting three goals on debut against Hawthorn. Despite this immediate impact, he struggled to lock down a permanent position under Tom Hafey, finding himself squeezed out by squad depth and nagging injuries throughout his first three seasons. He finally found continuity in 1986 under John Devine, playing nine straight games and appearing to settle into the side before a severe hamstring tear mid-season effectively brought his VFL career to a premature close at just 22. Following stints in the SANFL with West Torrens and the VFA with Werribee, he carved out a successful post-playing career as a premiership coach with the Geelong Falcons and a senior officer in Victoria Police, a family legacy at the Cats eventually continued by his nephew, Allen.
