Bio
A local recruit from Lara, Marty Christensen established himself as a reliable wingman and defender for Geelong during the mid-1980s. He was a consistent fixture under coach John Devine, notably missing just three games in 1986, but found senior opportunities scarce following the arrival of Malcolm Blight and the emergence of the Cats' powerhouse midfield. Unable to crack the lineup during the famous 1989 season, he remained on the fringe until his final game for the club in the 1991 Preliminary Final. Christensen crossed to North Melbourne in 1992 in search of a lifeline, but injuries restricted him to just two appearances in blue and white. Following his AFL career, he became a star in the NTFL, winning a Nichols Medal with St Mary’s, and is the uncle of 2011 premiership player Allen Christensen.
