Bio
Recruited from Perth with pick 51 in the 2000 National Draft, Dion Woods was a tall and athletic defender who burst onto the scene as one of Fremantle's brightest young prospects. An inaugural graduate of the Clontarf Football Academy, he made an immediate impact at AFL level, earning a Rising Star nomination and winning the club's Beacon Award as the best first-year player in 2001. Standing 191cm with a significant reach, Woods was a versatile backman capable of matching up on tall forwards or providing run from the defensive 50. He became a fixture of the Dockers' backline during their surge to the finals in 2003, playing a key role in the club’s celebrated "no-name defence" that helped secure Fremantle's historic first finals appearance. However, he struggled to recapture that consistency in subsequent seasons, managing just four games in 2005 before being delisted and returning to the WAFL.
