Family

Recruited from Westgarth Socials, Don Hart arrived at Brunswick Street with significant family pedigree as the younger brother of Fitzroy goal-kicking star Eddie Hart. A mobile key forward characterized by a booming left-foot kick and strong hands overhead, he showed flashes of potential in the Lions' attack before a severe knee injury forced him to miss the entire 1952 season. After struggling to recapture his standing in the senior side, Hart crossed to Richmond for the 1954 season in search of greater opportunity. Although he found himself on the fringe of the Tigers' best 22, managing just five senior appearances, he dominated at the lower level, topping the VFL reserves goalkicking table and featuring in the club's seconds premiership triumph. He eventually departed for the VFA with Brighton and later Mornington, where he became a prolific country football spearhead.
