Bio
Recruited from Waaia in the Goulburn Valley, Gary Stevens arrived at the Sydney Swans with strong football bloodlines as the younger brother of North Melbourne legend Anthony Stevens. A diminutive rover standing just 168cm, Stevens demonstrated significant potential in the developmental ranks, winning the 1991 Morrish Medal as the best and fairest player in the final year of the AFL Under-19s competition. Despite this junior success, he struggled to bridge the gap to senior football during a bleak era for the Swans, who collected wooden spoons in both years he played. Stevens managed just five senior appearances—all losses—before being delisted and returning to country football with Tatura.
