Bio
One of five brothers to play at the highest level, Gerald Rush arrived at Richmond from University as a crafty half-forward flanker known for his ability to baulk opponents and create scoring opportunities. He immediately became a regular contributor in the Tigers' dynamic 1920 lineup, booting 16 goals in 15 games as the club charged toward the finals. However, his career is defined by a singular stroke of misfortune; after injuring his knee in the semi-final victory over Carlton, he was forced to watch on as Richmond claimed its maiden premiership just weeks later. He attempted a return to the field in 1923, but a recurrence of the knee injury during a practice match forced him into premature retirement, leaving him as a key contributor to a flag-winning year who sadly missed the ultimate glory.
