Bio
Recruited from Northcote CYMS in the midst of the Second World War, Gerry Sexton played a brief but historically significant role for Footscray. While his senior career was limited to ten appearances across the 1944 and 1945 seasons without registering a goal, his name endures as the patriarch of a substantial footballing dynasty. Sexton is the father of St Kilda's Damian Sexton and the uncle of Carlton premiership defender Michael Sexton and fellow Bulldog Ben Sexton. His place in the record books is secured by a unique statistical quirk rather than on-field dominance; the nearly 45-year interval between Gerry's final match and Damian's debut remains the longest father-son gap in VFL/AFL history, cementing his status as the origin point for a modern footballing family.
