Bio
Harold Rippon is best remembered for his place in a unique footballing family and his ultimate sacrifice rather than his accumulation of statistics. Recruited from Caulfield, he made his mark at Melbourne in 1898 when he played in the same side as his brothers Les and Norm, establishing a rare sibling trio in the competition's early years. He stepped away from the league before returning as a mature-age recruit for South Melbourne in 1903, where he played a final handful of games alongside Norm in the red and white. A serviceable utility player who filled gaps where needed, Rippon's football journey was a prelude to his service in World War I, where he tragically died of wounds on the Western Front, leaving a legacy as one of the sport's fallen soldiers.
