Bio
Hailing from Wyndham Vale, Herb Nolan was a foundation squad member who joined his brother, Jerry Nolan, at Fitzroy for the VFL’s inaugural season in 1897. While his brother cemented a spot as a key defender in the club's 1898 premiership side, Herb found opportunities scarce, struggling to break into a formidable Maroons lineup that was rapidly becoming the competition's first powerhouse. A defensive-minded utility who failed to trouble the scorers, he managed just four senior appearances across two years, serving largely as depth while the club surged toward its maiden flag. Despite his brief tenure at Brunswick Street, Nolan retains the distinction of being an original squad member during Fitzroy's golden foundation era.
