Bio
A foundation player for Fitzroy in the VFL’s inaugural 1897 season, Jerry Nolan was a stout defender who played a vital role in the club’s early golden era. Hailing from a prominent footballing family that saw brothers Tom, Bernie, and Herb also reach the top flight, Nolan made the back pocket his own with a disciplined, no-nonsense approach. He etched his name into history as a member of Fitzroy’s 1898 premiership side, acting as a key cog in a miserly defence that restricted Essendon to just three goals in the Grand Final at Junction Oval. Although he featured early in the club’s successful 1899 campaign, he stepped away from the game shortly after, closing the book on a brief but successful career that helped establish the Maroons as the league's first powerhouse.
