Bio
Recruited from St Patrick's College in Sale, Ian Morrison established himself as a versatile utility at the Western Oval throughout the 1970s. While his 188cm frame suggested a key position role, Morrison was lightly built and possessed the running capacity to operate effectively as a ruck-rover or half-forward flanker. He became a consistent servant for Footscray, playing over a century of games and proving himself as a dangerous link player who could drift forward to hit the scoreboard, averaging nearly a goal a game during his time in the tricolours.
After eight seasons with the Bulldogs, Morrison crossed to Essendon for the 1981 season but found opportunities limited at Windy Hill, managing just three senior appearances in his final VFL year. His football journey enjoyed a celebrated second chapter in the VFA, where he reinvented himself as a dominant full-forward for Sandringham. He became a cult figure for the Zebras, leading the division's goalkicking to win the Jim 'Frosty' Miller Medal and spearheading the club's 1985 premiership victory.
