Family

Born in Bendigo to a police family, Jack Power was a sturdy 185cm follower and defender who entered the VFL via the Police and Northcote CYMS sides. He spent five seasons at Melbourne but struggled to cement a permanent senior position, often oscillating between the firsts and the reserves, where he featured in back-to-back premierships in 1931 and 1932. His time at the Demons was marked by a lingering desire to move to Victoria Park; he was twice refused a clearance to Collingwood in 1932 before finally securing the move in early 1935. Power managed just three senior games for the Magpies—winning all three—before his league career concluded, though his contribution to the game extended to future generations as the grandfather of modern AFL players Luke and Sam Power.
