Bio
Recruited by the Western Bulldogs with pick 10 in the 2001 National Draft, Sam Power arrived at the Whitten Oval with significant expectations, partly due to the exploits of his older brother, Brisbane Lions triple-premiership star Luke Power. A smooth-moving left-footer with elite endurance, Power was primarily utilised as an outside midfielder and running defender. However, he often struggled to impose himself physically on contests or cement a permanent position in the Bulldogs' best 22, leading to criticism regarding his output relative to his high draft selection. After 84 games across six seasons, he fell out of favour under Rodney Eade and requested a trade in search of greater opportunities.
Power secured a move to North Melbourne for the 2008 season, where he was reinvented as a disciplined run-with player. He played every game in his debut year at Arden Street, often tasked with nullifying dangerous opposition midfielders, but was unable to maintain that consistency the following year. After adding 39 games to his career tally with the Kangaroos, he was delisted at the end of the 2009 season. Following his retirement, Power forged a successful career in football administration, eventually returning to the Western Bulldogs to serve as the club's General Manager of List Management and Recruiting.
