Bio
Recruited from the Oakleigh Chargers with pick five in the 1997 National Draft, Luke Power wasted little time establishing himself as a vital component of the Brisbane Lions' dynasty. While often underrated externally compared to the Brownlow Medallists alongside him—Michael Voss, Simon Black, and Jason Akermanis—Power was renowned for his elite decision-making and precise disposal. A creative midfielder with a knack for drifting forward to kick crucial goals, he provided the polish to the Lions' midfield grunt, playing an integral role in the club's premiership hat-trick between 2001 and 2003.
Following the premiership era, Power's individual standing grew, earning All-Australian selection in 2004. As the list transitioned, he assumed significant leadership responsibilities, serving as co-captain during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Despite the club's slide down the ladder, Power remained a consistent performer, eventually shifting across half-back where his reading of the play allowed him to set up attacks from defence. By the end of 2011, having played 282 games for the Lions, he was widely respected for his loyalty and football IQ.
