Family

Recruited from Koo Wee Rup, Jack Shelton quickly established himself as a lethal spearhead for St Kilda, following in the footsteps of his brother James who had played a handful of games for the club earlier in the decade. He was an immediate force at Junction Oval, topping the Saints' goalkicking table in three consecutive seasons and earning state selection for Victoria four times. A prolific scorer who averaged nearly three goals a game, his career was abruptly cut short during a physical encounter against Carlton in 1928. After being suspended for eight matches for striking Ray Brew, Shelton walked away from VFL football, leaving a formidable but truncated legacy as one of the competition's most dangerous forwards of the mid-1920s.
