Bio
Drafted to Melbourne as a father-son selection with pick 26 in the 2012 National Draft, Jack Viney carried the weight of a famous surname but quickly established his own identity as one of the competition's toughest inside midfielders. The son of former captain Todd Viney, Jack became renowned for his ferocious attack on the football and willingness to put his body on the line, acting as the spiritual leader of the Demons' engine room during a transformative era for the club.
His leadership qualities were recognised early, resulting in a Keith 'Bluey' Truscott Trophy win in 2016 and a stint as co-captain alongside Nathan Jones during a rebuilding phase for the side. Although he eventually relinquished the captaincy to Max Gawn, Viney remained integral to the club's on-field success, playing a pivotal role as vice-captain in Melbourne's drought-breaking 2021 premiership victory. As a devoted one-club player, he remains a key figure in the midfield rotation, serving as a hardened veteran mentor who sets the standard for contested intensity.
