Bio
Recruited from Sturt in the SANFL, Jay Viney arrived at Melbourne as the younger brother of future club captain Todd Viney. Despite the strong family connection, the midfielder found it difficult to cement a permanent place in a Demons lineup that was often contending for finals during the late 1980s and early 1990s. He served largely as a depth player, managing just 23 senior appearances across five seasons between 1988 and 1992 before departing the AFL. While his own career at the top level was brief, he remains part of a significant club dynasty as the uncle of modern-day Melbourne premiership player Jack Viney.
