Bio
Drafted from the Northern Knights with pick 44 in the 2018 National Draft, Justin McInerney proved to be a savvy selection for the Swans, developing from a slight-bodied teenager into a damaging outside runner. After managing a solitary debut game in 2019, he seized his opportunity during the 2020 season, earning a Rising Star nomination and cementing his place in Sydney's best 22. Known for his chaotic energy, vocal on-field presence, and elite endurance, 'Juzzy' became a key link player on the wing and half-back flank, using his dash to break lines and drive the Swans into attack during the club's resurgence.
A regular fixture in the side that contested the 2022 Grand Final, McInerney's career trajectory faced a cruel hurdle in 2024 when a PCL injury late in the home-and-away season ruled him out of the club's finals campaign. Despite the setback, he remained a vital component of the Swans' structure when fit, offering defensive accountability mixed with an instinct for drifting forward to kick clutch goals. By 2026, he had established himself as an experienced campaigner, valued as much for his infectious enthusiasm and two-way running as his ability to transition the ball from defence to offence.
