Bio
Kale Matthews-Hampton is a dynamic general defender who gave up a promising junior basketball career to focus entirely on his football pathway. Coming through the ranks at Sturt in the SANFL, he was a member of their under-18 premiership team last year and featured as the only bottom-age player in South Australia's title-winning state side. He continued to build his profile during his draft year, representing his state at the 2026 National Championships while taking on greater responsibilities at club level.
Known as a strong rebounder out of the defensive half, Matthews-Hampton uses his athletic background to intercept and distribute the ball effectively. Scouts have noted his versatility, highlighted by an intriguing shift into a defensive sweeper role at stoppages to help combat opposition exits during the season. While he is still refining his craft as a full-time footballer, his upside has caught the attention of recruiters. He earned an invitation to the South Australian state draft combine, placing him firmly on the radar of AFL clubs looking to add a flexible and athletic defender to their lists.
