Bio
Originally a rugby league full-back from Brisbane, Grimley was a pioneering figure for Queensland football who enjoyed a brief but striking cameo in the VFL. After starring for Wilston Grange, the imposing ruckman-forward was invited south by Fitzroy officials who spotted him in an exhibition match, and he famously booted six goals in just his second senior appearance against Geelong at Kardinia Park. He returned to the Sunshine State after a single season, where he cemented his status as a local legend with Coorparoo and Wilston Grange, winning the 1964 Grogan Medal and captaining his state. Grimley's impact extended well beyond his playing days; he was named ruckman in the Queensland Team of the Century and established a three-generation AFL dynasty, with his son Brett and grandson Sam both following in his footsteps at the elite level.
