Bio
Recruited from South Fremantle with pick 77 in the 2001 National Draft, Martin McGrath is best remembered for producing one of the most explosive debuts in Richmond history. The cousin of Brisbane premiership player Ashley McGrath, he was a livewire small forward who combined raw speed with natural goal sense. After spending time developing in the reserves, he earned his selection in Round 17, 2003 against the Kangaroos and famously booted five goals, instantly becoming a cult favourite among the Tiger Army. However, he struggled to maintain that intensity or find consistency in his subsequent three appearances and was delisted at the conclusion of the 2003 season. McGrath returned to Western Australia having played just four career games, leaving a legacy defined almost entirely by a singular, brilliant afternoon at the MCG.
