Bio
Recruited by Port Adelaide with pick 25 in the 1997 National Draft, Nick Stevens quickly established himself as a polished midfielder within a dominant Power engine room. While he was an integral part of Port Adelaide's finals campaigns in the early 2000s, he is perhaps best remembered for the controversy surrounding his departure at the end of 2003. After requesting a trade to Collingwood to return to Victoria, negotiations between the Power and the Magpies acrimoniously collapsed, forcing Stevens into the Pre-Season Draft where Carlton swooped to recruit him. This move meant he missed out on Port Adelaide's historic 2004 premiership, instead joining a Blues outfit that was entering a significant rebuilding phase.
At Princes Park, Stevens provided elite ball use and leadership during a lean period for the club. A damaging outside midfielder known for his precise kicking and ability to accumulate possessions, he became a vital senior figure, twice finishing runner-up in the John Nicholls Medal and serving as vice-captain. His ability to link play from defence to attack was a highlight throughout his tenure, though his career was ultimately cut short by a severe neck injury that forced his retirement during the 2009 season.
