Bio
Recruited from VFA powerhouse Port Melbourne, Norm Goss Sr. arrived at Hawthorn as a mature-age recruit during the World War II era. With the VFA competition in recess due to the conflict, he crossed to the VFL to play eight games across the 1942 and 1943 seasons, bringing a hardened edge to the Hawks' midfield. A tough and uncompromising follower, his stint at the top level was brief before he eventually returned to the Borough, where he is regarded as a club legend. His legacy extended well beyond his own playing days, however, as the patriarch of a significant football family that saw his son, Norm Goss Jr., play over 200 VFL games and the family name immortalised on the medal awarded to the best player in the VFL Grand Final.
