The son of VFA legend and Brownlow Medallist Norm Goss Sr., Norm Goss carved out his own significant legacy as a goal-kicking rover and half-forward. He debuted for South Melbourne in 1972, quickly establishing himself as a crafty ball-winner with a lethal eye for the big sticks, averaging well over a goal a game during his time at the Lakeside Oval. Despite his individual consistency, team success proved elusive at South, prompting a high-profile switch to Hawthorn prior to the 1978 season.

The move paid immediate dividends, as Goss became a key component of the Hawks' 1978 premiership side in his very first year at Glenferrie. Renowned for his slick disposal and ability to drift forward to punish opposition defenders, he remained a fixture in the Hawthorn lineup for five seasons, appearing in nearly every game during his tenure. He retired in 1982 after surpassing the 200-game milestone, remembered as a dual-club stalwart who successfully stepped out of his famous father's shadow to capture the ultimate VFL success.
