Bio
The eldest son of Collingwood icon Bob Rose, Robert Rose entered the VFL carrying one of the most famous surnames in the game while simultaneously pursuing a promising cricket career with Victoria. A courageous and skilled rover, he debuted for the Magpies in 1970 but found consistent senior opportunities difficult to secure, eventually transferring to Footscray for the 1973 season. His dual sporting career was tragically cut short at just 22 years of age following a car accident in early 1974 that left him a quadriplegic. Although his time at the elite level was brief, his legacy remains profound through the Robert Rose Foundation, established to support those with spinal injuries, and the commemorative cup contested annually between his two former clubs.
