Bio
Recruited from St Albans, Rod MacPherson was a rover who followed his older brother Stephen into the Footscray senior side, making his debut in 1982. While he showed promise as a crumber around the packs, he struggled to command a permanent position in the Bulldogs' lineup over five seasons. In search of regular senior football, MacPherson moved north to join the inaugural Brisbane Bears squad in 1987. He earned a place in the club's historic first VFL match—a victory over North Melbourne—but could not sustain his spot in the side, departing the league at the end of the year with 50 games to his credit.
