Bio
Recruited from Sturt with the third pick in the 2010 National Draft, Sam Day was a foundation pillar for the Gold Coast Suns, famously choosing Australian football over a promising pathway in professional baseball. Throughout his 14-season tenure at Carrara, Day operated as a versatile key position utility, primarily stationed as a marking forward who offered support in the ruck, while occasionally swinging into defence to cover structural gaps. His career was marked by resilience rather than consistent stardom, as he battled through significant injury setbacksโincluding a severe hip dislocation that erased his 2017 campaignโto become a Life Member and one of the club's longest-serving players. Following his delisting by the Suns at the end of 2024, Day was thrown a lifeline by rivals Brisbane, joining the Lions as a delisted free agent to add experienced depth to their key position stocks for the 2025 season.
