Bio
Selected with pick 28 in the 2000 National Draft, Steven Greene arrived at Glenferrie Oval with the notable distinction of being the son of triple-premiership Hawk Russell Greene. A prolific ball-winner at VFL level with Box Hill, Greene was an industrious midfielder capable of accumulating high disposal numbers, though he often found it difficult to translate his dominant state-league form into consistent impact at the elite level. He managed to break into the senior side for sporadic stints under Peter Schwab and early in the tenure of Alastair Clarkson but struggled to cement a permanent position in the club's midfield rotation. After five seasons on the list and 42 senior appearances, he was delisted at the conclusion of the 2005 season as Hawthorn aggressively reshaped its list for a rebuild.
