Bio
Recruited from Doveton in Melbourne's outer southeast, Terry De Koning was a towering ruckman who plied his trade for Footscray in the early 1980s. Standing at 196cm, he was a classic tap ruckman of the era, relying on his significant height and reach to compete at stoppages against the seasoned big men of the VFL. He managed 31 senior appearances over three seasons at the Western Oval but found it difficult to command a regular spot in the starting 18, eventually departing to carve out a respectable tenure in the VFA with Dandenong, Camberwell, and Sandringham. Today, his standing in the game is largely defined by his role as the patriarch of a talented footballing family, with his sons Tom and Sam emerging as star key position players in the modern AFL.
