Bio
The eldest of four brothers who all played League football, Tom Fogarty snr was a commanding ruckman and natural leader who captained two separate clubs during the VFL's formative years. After initiating his career with St Kilda, he moved to South Melbourne where he established himself as a premier follower, eventually earning the captaincy in 1903. Although business pressures forced him into a brief retirement, he was lured back to the field in 1908 to lead the newly admitted University side. As the Students' inaugural VFL captain, Fogarty provided hardened experience to the amateur collegiate lineup, playing alongside his brothers Chris and Joe to cement a unique family legacy before his final retirement.
